Partially Oriented Yarn (POY)

What is Partially Oriented Yarn (POY)?

POY is created by melting and blending polyester flakes or chips, and during the spinning process, the fibers are twisted and extended to several times their distinctive size, perfectly aligning with the strength, shrinkage, and stretch properties of the yarn. The term “POY” implies multifilament threads that are somewhat stretched. However, POY yarn is generally considered to have lower strength and integrity compared to Fully Oriented Yarn (FOY), and it is typically used in weaving, knitting, and sewing processes.
